Sweetgrass Braid

Sweetgrass is known as the "hair of Mother Earth". It is one of the four sacred medicine of the medicine wheel. One strand is weak and can easily be broken but when braided becomes incredibly strong. This symbolizes the strength of family and community working together. One single braid is made of twenty-one single strands of sweetgrass. The first seven strands honor our ancestors and the seven generations that came before, the middle seven represent the seven sacred teachings (love, respect, honesty, courage, wisdom, truth, and humility) and the final seven strands look ahead to the seven generations to come.  Burning sweetgrass is used to invite positive and good spirits.
